The HPOU honored Officer C. K. Overstreet as Patrol Officer of the Month at the November general membership meeting.
Officer Overstreet was issued a “cool car” (an undercover vehicle) because North Houston was having multiple break-ins during the night and the officer’s job was to on-view burglaries and respond to alarm calls quickly to apprehend any suspects.
About 3:50 a.m. on Aug. 30, Overstreet and his partner were patrolling 3B50’s beat looking for burglaries in progress. They observed a black truck backed up to a phone store at 88 Crosstimbers. The vehicle had its lights on and three people inside the truck.
The officers drove by and turned around so they could get a better position. They parked their unmarked vehicle and watched the suspicious vehicle. They then observed the three suspects run out of the business and get back into the black truck. The truck fled the location and headed southbound.
Overstreet and his partner observed a red BMW pull in front of the truck and both vehicles pulled into a private driveway. The three suspects got out of the truck and entered the red BMW. Marked vehicles arrived and attempted to pull the vehicle as it fled.
There was a long car chase which ended with the suspects in custody. The black truck was found to be stolen. All the phones were recovered and returned to the owner. All four suspects were charged with burglary of a business and evading arrest on foot. One of the suspects was also charged with evading in a motor vehicle.
After 3 a.m. on Sept. 28, Overstreet and his partner heard an alarm call drop at a pharmacy in the 1100 block of Pinemont. Overstreet knew this address because there had been previous burglaries at this location.
The officers arrived quickly and could hear suspects inside the building. They went to the back of the building to secure a perimeter and notified units. They used their night vision goggles and observed two suspects running on top of the roof.
The suspects jumped off the roof and ran into a nearby neighborhood. Officer Overstreet and his partner helped arriving units set up a perimeter and both suspects were apprehended and charged with felony criminal mischief and burglary of a building. One of the suspects had an outstanding warrant for aggravated robbery.
