December 2017 was a busy month for Burglary & Theft Detective Rick Anderson, who cleared four cases by arrest, filed two burglary charges, three other felony charges and one misdemeanor theft charge.
In addition, Lt. Jack Harvey told the HPOU February general membership meeting, Anderson recovered approximately $100,000 in stolen property. Harvey outlined these achievements as he announced Anderson as the HPOU Investigator of the Month.
In one incident on Dec. 17, Anderson covered a bank burglary scene and filed burglary charges against two suspects after interviewing them.
In another incident, Anderson investigated a serial case of high-end watch thefts from golf bags at golf courses in Houston, Baytown, Harris, Fort Bend and Montgomery counties “The same suspect,” Harvey said, “went to multiple golf courses in the guise of a golfer, pilfered high end watches and pawned them.”
Anderson recovered multiple watches from pawn shps and filed a to-be warrant for felony theft against the suspect. With the help of the Criminal Intelligence Division’s cell phone tracking unit, Anderson got the suspect arrested in Carlsbad, California, while on a golf course stealing watches.
“The suspect was arrested on eight open felony arrest warrants for theft and credit card abuse,” the lieutenant said.
In yet another incident Detective Anderson investigated a serial burglary ring that victimized those whose homes were damaged by Hurricane Harvey. Working with the DPS and the Westside Division gang unit, Anderson used his interrogation and investigative techniques to develop multiple suspects, leading to three felony arrests and the recovery of about $100,000 worth of property at multiple self-storage units and a home.
Harvey said, “The recovered property is so voluminous it is still being cataloged and stored or returned to owners as I type this.”
Lt. Harvey point out that Anderson – always a hard worker – far exceeded “what could reasonably be expected of a Burglary and Theft detective” in a short period of time such as this.
