Officer Dustin Reeves was dispatched to a hospital check involving a juvenile sexual assault victim, followed some clues and his best instincts that resulted in the arrest of a serial rapist.
For his work Reeves was honored as the HPOU Patrol Officer of the Month in the June general membership meeting.
The victim at the hospital told Reeves that she accepted a ride home from a man who took her in his truck to an apartment complex on the Gulf Freeway and assaulted her. Reeves got a good description of the attacker and began trying to identify the suspect.
He took the name the perpetrator used and found that he had used it along “with many other aliases.” The officer zeroed in on “more possible aliases linked to this possible phone number.”
“Officer Reeves then conducted a criminal history search of the aliases he had found and was able to identify a possible suspect that used the phone number when he was arrested on a previous incident.”
Further investigation paired the suspect with a black Chevrolet Silverado with an identifiable license plate when he was arrested. The suspect and his vehicle matched the description provided Reeves by the victim.
Reeves was able to find the vehicle parked at an address previously used by the suspect and “noticed the vehicle had heavy damage that would be easily identified.” “Officer Reeves contacted the victim and she was able to describe the damage on the suspect’s vehicle.”
This information was linked the incident reports dating back to 2015 and consisting of five sexual assaults, two of which involved juveniles, and one aggravated assault family violence.
Sexual Assault of child charges were filed against the suspect and he was arrested by the Clear Lake DTU on Dec. 29. Further charges are pending DNA results.
“Thanks to Officer Reeves’ knowledge and dedication to complete a thorough investigation he positively identified a serial rapist and violent criminal. His extra effort on this call will assist in giving some form of closure to those that were targeted by this suspect and I have no doubt that his efforts saved countless other women from being victimized.”
