March 2016 Obituaries

ALLEN

Mrs. Frances M. Allen, 71, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2016. She is the mother of Senior Police Officer Lisa R. Green, assigned to the Special Operations Division. Services were held January14 with burial in Brookside Cemetery.

BARNARD

Retired Police Officer Donald Allen Barnard, 79, passed away on Friday, December 25, 2015. He joined the Houston Police Department on June 1, 1959, Academy Class No. 21. Services were held December 31.

BRADLEY

Ferma Bradley, 80, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2016.  She is the mother of Senior Police Officer CJ Barnes, assigned to the Employee Services Division; mother-in-law of Harris County Sheriff Deputy Kerry Barnes; mother of Senior Human Resources Specialist Debra Bias, assigned to the Employee Services Division, Administrative Assistant June Bradley, assigned to the Fleet Unit; grandmother of Senior Police Officer Denattos Haynes, assigned to the Special Operations Division, Senior Police Service Officer Fallon Bias, assigned to the Special Victims Division, and Administrative Associate Candace Knox, assigned to the Records Division; and aunt  of Senior Police Officer Catina East, assigned to the North Division. Services were held January 16 with burial in Houston National Cemetery.

CHAMBERS

Ellen Chambers, 105, passed away on December 13, 2015.  She is the Great-Grandmother of Senior Customer Service Clerk Beverly Myers, assigned to the Inspections Division. Services were held January 2 with burial in Cemetery Beautiful.

 COLBERT

Mrs. Clara Mae Colbert, 94, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2015. She is the grandmother of Data Entry Operator Cynthia Y. Johnson, assigned to the Traffic Enforcement Division. Services were held December 30 with burial in Hollywood Cemetery in Orange.

CRELLIN 

Mr. Raymond F. Crellin passed away on Christmas Day, Friday, December 25, 2015.  He is the father of Retired Senior Police Officer Kerry Crellin and grandfather of Police Officer Michael Crellin, assigned to the Investigative First Responder Division.  Mr. Crellin was a veteran of the United States Navy during WWII, he served aboard the USS General Sturgis and was present during the formal Japanese Surrender in Tokyo Harbor. Services were held January 2.

HARVEY

Mrs. Florine S. Harvey passed away on Friday, January 22, 2016. She is the mother of Police Officer Kevin R. Harvey, assigned to the Juvenile Division. Services were held January 30 with burial in Paradise Cemetery South in Pearland.

HENKE

Mr. Frank P. Henke, 94, passed away on Monday, January 18, 2016. He is the father of Retired Senior Police Officer Michael F. Henke, last assigned to the Westside Division, retiring on March 28, 2015. Services were held January 22 with burial in Sweet Home, Texas.

 KEMP

Retired Senior Police Officer Tommy F. Kemp, 75, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2016. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He started his law enforcement career with the Airport Police on October 29, 1973. He joined the Houston Police Department during the merger of the two police departments on November 21, 1992. Senior Police Officer Kemp retired on January 1, 2003 while assigned to the Airport Division / IAH. He is survived by his wife Barbara A. Kemp.

LAMBERT

Senior Police Officer John C. Lambert, 66, passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2015. He joined the Houston Police Department on November 3, 1980, Academy Class No. 94. During his career with the Houston Police Department, Senior Police Officer Lambert was assigned to the Special Operations Division, Jail Division, Personnel Division, and the Training Division – Firearms Training. Senior Police Officer John C. Lambert is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sharon A. Lambert; and daughter Stephanie Esparza. Services were held December 29 with burial in Brookside Cemetery.

 LEWIS

Doris E. Lewis, 93, passed away.  She is the mother of Administrative Associate Robin Benson, assigned to the Records Division.  She was a veteran of WW II, Serving in the United States Naval Supplementary Radio Station, Imperial Beach, San Diego, CA.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Lewis. Services were held January 2 with burial in Ilion, New York.

 McHENRY

Mrs. Alice E. McHenry, 83, passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2015. She is the mother of Senior Police Officer Don D. McHenry, assigned to the Special Operations Division. Services were held January 8.

OAKES

Retired Police Officer Joe D. Oakes, 79, passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2015. He Joined the Houston Police Department on December 29, 1958, Academy Class No. 20. He retired on April 26, 1979. Retired Police Officer Joe D. Oakes is survived by his wife of 11 years, Bobbie Oakes; and sons Don Cody and Kenneth Oakes.  Services were scheduled for February 20 in Conroe.

O’BRIEN

Police Officer Seldon D. O’Brien, Jr., 40, passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2015. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Reserve. Officer O’Brien served in the Dallas Police Department from June 11, 1999 to January 29, 2005. Police Officer O’Brien joined the Houston Police Department on January 31, 2005, Academy Class No. 184. During his career with the Houston Police Department, Officer O’Brien was assigned to the Westside Division, Midwest Division, and with the IFR Division/Midwest. Police Officer Seldon D. O’Brien is survived by his parents, Seldon D. O’Brien, Sr. and Eunice M. O’Brien; and his sister Jennifer A. O’Brien. Services were held January 5 with burial in Memorial Oaks Cemetery.

REID

Mr. Eladio D. Reid, 65, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2016. He is the father of Sergeant Carlos E. Miller, assigned to the Vehicular Crimes Division. Services were held January 29 with burial in Houston National Cemetery.

REKIETA

Christine C. Rekieta passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2016.  She is the mother of Lieutenant Richard Rekieta, assigned to the Burglary and Theft Division. Services were held January 21 with burial in Bremond.

ROY

Retired Police Officer Louis F. Roy, 75, passed away on Monday, January 18, 2016. He was a U.S. Army Veteran. He joined the Houston Police Department on November 11, 1974, Academy Class No. 67. Police Officer Roy retired on June 5, 1999 while assigned to the Personnel Division. He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Cherryl Roy.

SETTLES

Mr. Paul Settles, Jr., 78, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2016. He is the brother of Senior Trainer Paula S. Settles, assigned to the Training Division. Services were held January 16 with burial in Winnfield, Louisiana.

SKORUPINSKI

Retired Police Officer Roy Andrew Skorupinski, 79, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2015. He joined the Houston Police Department on October 5, 1964, Academy Class No. 31. During his career with the Houston Police Department, he was assigned to the Central Division, Employment Services Division, and Burglary and Theft Division. Retiring on June 19, 1989. Retired Police Officer Roy A. Skorupinski is survived by his wife of 56 years, Irene H. Skorupinski; and son Thomas W. Skorupinski. Burial was in Forest Park Lawndale.

 SQUYRES

Retired Police Officer Charles Squyres passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2015.  He joined Police Academy Class No. 23 on December 28, 1959.  He retired on January 14, 1984 while last assigned to the Criminal Intelligence Division.  He is survived by his wife, Mildred Squyres. Services were held January 4 with burial in Columbus.

SUCHINA

Mrs. Rosa “Lucile” Suchina, 93, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Retired Police Officer Andrew H. Suchina, who retired on October 18, 1974, and passed away on September 13, 1986. Services were held January 17 with burial in Houston National Cemetery.

THOMAS

Lieutenant James Thomas passed away on Monday, January 18, 2016.  He joined Police Academy No. 26 on September 17, 1962.  He retired on January 29, 1993, while last assigned to the Southwest Division.  Lieutenant Thomas is survived by his wife, Nancy.

VALDEZ

Mrs. Virginia “Victoria” Valdez, 69, passed away on Friday, January 22, 2016. She is the mother of Senior Police Officer Gilbert G. Love, assigned to the Airport Division / Bush IAH. Services were held January 28 with burial in Forest Park Lawndale.

 VALENTINE

Mrs. Pamela Kaye Valentine, 70, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2016. She is the mother of Sergeant Edward C. Valentine, assigned to the Southwest Division. Services were held January 30.

 VASQUEZ

Mr. Alberto Vasquez Jimenez, 59, passed away on Friday, January 15, 2016. He is the father of Senior Police Officer Francisco R. Gomez, assigned to the Traffic Enforcement Division; and uncle of Senior Police Officer Mark A. Gomez, assigned to the Special Victims Division. Services were held January 22 with burial in Brookside Memorial Park.

VOORHIES

Mrs. Marie E. Voorhies, 82, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2016. She is the grandmother of Police Sergeant Travis G. Parkerson, assigned to the Juvenile Division. Services were held January 12.

WARD

Mr. Michael D. Ward, 58, passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2016. He is the husband of Retired Records Technician Gladys M. Stevens Ward, last assigned to the Employee Services Division, retiring on October 1, 2008. Services were held January 15 with burial in Houston Memorial Gardens.

 WHITED

Mrs. Bernice M. Whited, 76, passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2016. She is the mother-in-law of Police Telecommunications Supervisor Darwin G. Johnson, assigned to the Emergency Communications Division. Services were held January 14 with burial in Houston National Cemetery.

WOFFORD

Criminal Intelligence Analyst Melissa A. Wofford passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at the age of 36. She joined the Houston Police Department on July 5, 2005, and was assigned to the Narcotics Division. Melissa resigned from the Houston Police Department on September 2006 to go to work for the United States Marshal’s Office until August 24, 2015. Melissa Wofford returned to work at the Houston Police Department on August 31, 2015. She was assigned to the Special Victims Division until the day of her passing.
