Tickets to the Deacon’s Stars and Stripes Charity Softball Classic, presented by enTouch Business, are officially on sale now at the Skeeters Ticket Office and online. The inaugural charity softball game will raise money and awareness for the Sugar Land Skeeters Baseball Foundation including the Deacon’s Dugout Initiative and Behind the Badge charities on Saturday, April 16 at Constellation Field.
The charity softball game will feature a fun and exciting game pairing local First Responders with baseball legends, including Skeeters Manager and former Major Leaguer Gary Gaetti. Celebrity guests scheduled to attend the event include Bucky Dent, Cecil Cooper, Dickie Thon, Fergie Jenkins, Jim Rice, Shane Lechler, Phil Garner and Larry Dierker. Fans will have the opportunity to get right up to the action at Constellation Field and participate in photo opportunities and a jersey auction.
Grover “Deacon” Jones, special advisor to the Skeeters organization and namesake for the event, will also be present at the game. Today, Jones is best known for his community work in the Fort Bend area but is also relevant to the Houston area serving as a coach for the Houston Astros from 1976-82. The New York native, appeared in 40 Major League games as a first baseman and pinch hitter for the Chicago White Sox (1962-63; 1966). After an 11-year minor league career (1955-56, 1959-67; 1969), Jones went on to serve as a scout, minor-league coach and manager in the White Sox organization.
