Assist the Officer’s first-ever golf tournament was a rousing success despite the fact it was held on Friday the 13th!
The Tour 18 located on Farm Road 1960 in Humble drew a sold-out slate of 144 players (36 teams), every one of them dedicated to helping ATO raise funds for officers in need due to serious illness or severe injuries on or off duty.
Golf tournament chairs Doug Griffith and Gabriela Gregory beamed with joy at the turnout and the hard work of a number of volunteers.
Gregory, known for her hard work and dedication to all of ATO’s fundraising events, singled out what she called “amazing volunteers.” And they included those from PACA leading the registration, ATO volunteers (Josue Villa, Sue Villa, Stephanie Mays-McGraw and Ken McGraw) and Houston Police Federal Credit Union volunteers (Amber Roberts and Brenda Alcorta).
“It was a huge success,” Gregory said. “Everyone loved the course, beer kegs at the holes, the raffle and chicken fried steak for an early lunch!”
Tim Butler and Bobby Kessler served up sausage with grilled veggies for lunch.
The intrepid Gregory is already beginning the plans for ATO’s Badges & Bogeys 2020.
Both Griffith and Gregory took great satisfaction in pointing out that this tournament “sold out a few weeks before it was scheduled to begin.”
