As the HPD officer who ran the Family Assistance Office, Jim Hudson helped numerous officers who met with hard times. Hudson considered this his duty well beyond regular working hours and frequently went the extra mile for those in deepest need.

Now Hudson, who retired from the Department some years ago, is the one who needs the help. His son, James, told the Badge & Gun of his father’s current condition, while seeking help to pay a growing number of medical bills.

“My father has been in the hospital for eight months now and still is confined to a bed and requires 24-hou car,” James Hudson said. “He will also require around-the-clock care most likely for the rest of his life.

“He developed an infection that went into his bones and almost took his life. The whole situation is saddening, especially considering my father worked Family Assistance and helped countless fellow officers and their families.”

The younger Hudson said Medicare benefits have declined, putting the family in a huge amount of debt.

A GoFundMe account has been set up. “I wanted to get the word out to current HPD officers and the retirees who knew my father,” James Hudson said. “Please keep my father in your prayers.”
