On Tuesday, June 19, 24 HPD officers, their family members and civilians departed Houston on an eight-day,  2,450-mile bicycle trip to Orlando, Florida to raise awareness about cancer, particularly blood cancers including leukemia, lymphoma, sickle cell and a multitude of others.

Each team member was required to raise at least $5,000 that was designated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). The team raised over $145,000 this year, the 37th year of the ride. In past years the team has traveled to Canada, Alaska and many cities throughout the U.S., raising more than $6 million.

The team is the longest standing fundraising group associated with LLS in the nation.  Without the generous donors such as corporations, individuals and the kindness of fellow HPD officers donating through the Combined Municipal Campaign, this would not be possible.

This annual event proves that HPD officers go above and beyond in giving back to the community in their attempt to make the world a better place. Team President Ronnie Mascheck gave special recognition to the Houston Police Officers Union for its generous donation of time, money and facilities.
